The painting has a rather dark value, as the subject itself makes one reflect. I refer indirectly to the motives of the events that took place in my hometown in the 19th century. Dr. Krzysztof Nawrocki, the mayor of the Żarnów Commune, mentions the tragic nature of what happened in Żarnów in the local journal Nicolaus "In this area, people died from cholera, which occurred in 1817, 1831-1832, 1837, 1848-1855, 1873 and 1892-1894" It was undoubtedly the hecatomb of the population of the town of Żarnów. In 1864, on the occasion of the end of the longest phase of the epidemic, my ancestor Mikołaj Millak built a thanksgiving chapel with the participation of the local community, the patron of which became St. Rozalia. In my work, apart from the broadly understood imagery of emotions, there must be a place for sentiment from the past, for references to roots and genealogy. I build references to ourselves, to who we were, and how our individual and social tissue has changed. It is impossible to be here and now without exploring the original source of yourself. The awareness of possibilities and disabilities is the foundation of being rational, it just feels like it is. These often quite strong emotions, sentiments and ideas feed my imagination. Thanks to them, I grow mentally and can create further and further, reaching for an inexhaustible source of creative inspiration. If we are talking about more prosaic matters, technical details, the colors used are to emphasize the gloom of the moment, its importance, as well as the dramaturgy and monumentality of the events. I used ocher, browns and grays with hints of red.
